A farmer allegedly tried to kill himself by immolation in Gosainganj police station area, claiming his land had been illegally grabbed by construction company Ansal API.

An FIR was lodged against Ansal API chairman Sushil Ansal and two company officials Manoj Shukla and Vineet Srivastava for abetment of suicide.

Sundara, the wife of Naumilal, a resident of Mehmoodpur village, alleged that her family had about 0.1 acre land in PGI area which was illegally grabbed by the accused persons on March 10.

According to Sundara's complaint, her husband Naumilal had given the complaint to PGI police station but no action was taken. She alleged that Naumilal (67) tried to commit suicide by immolating himself on Thursday night.

Sanjay Kumar, Circle Officer (Cantonment), said police had not received any complaint regarding land grabbing. He said the complaint pertaining to Naumilal's immolation had been sent to Gosainganj police station as the incident took place there.

Gosainganj station officer Ram Prasad Yadav said an FIR had been lodged against the accused persons under IPC 306 (abetment to suicide) and 447 (criminal trespass).

While Ansal officials could not be reached for comment, Bharatiya Kisan Union district president Harinam Singh Verma said Naumilal had been admitted to Civil Hospital on Sunday after getting treatment in a private hospital on Rae Bareli road for two days.
